  • Celeron overclocking is extremely hot right now. As such, we were only able to allocate a Celeron 566, 600 and 700 for our article. The incredibly popular Celeron 533A is a tough one to find in the retail sector right now, and with Intel halting production on that model, expect it to get worse yet. Even the Celeron 566 is getting more difficult to find, and especially so in the retail boxed format. The Celeron 600 retail is equally tough to locate, but its OEM counterpart can be found just in much greater numbers. In testing the overclocking potential of these processors, a Slot 1 (with Slocket adapter) motherboard was used for primary testing, along with a FC-PGA motherboards for comparison. Any relevant differences between boards have been noted.

For your reference, here are the model numbers of the tested CPUs:

    SL3W7 - Celeron 566 Retail
    SL3W8 - Celeron 600 Retail
    SL48S - Celeron 700 OEM

    Overclocking Platform:

    • Windows 98
    • Celeron 566, Celeron 600, Celeron 700
    • MSI BXMaster and Soyo SY-7VCA motherboards
    • ELSA Erazor X2 GeForce DDR
    • 128 MB 7.5 ns PC133 SDRAM
    • Seagate Barracuda ATA 28GB 7200 RPM, ATA-66 HD
