Business Winstone 2001 is an application-based PC benchmark suite from ZD Labs that uses business programs like MS Office 2000, FrontPage 2000, Lotus Notes, and Netscape to test a system's performance. This suite of programs are run from a batch script that attempts to accurately emulate a business system load, then supplies a final performance rating.
Even with the enhanced i845G chipset, the Business Winstone results continue to favor the i850E. Still, the i845G does outpace the SiS 645DX, while making short work of the i845D as well. This is about where we pegged Business Winstone performance, and the i845G looks to be taking over the mantle as Intel's new mainstream business platform.
Content Creation Winstone 2002 is another excellent benchmark from ZD, and is one of the first to have Windows XP as the intended platform. Its demanding applications and exceptional stability makes it a great match for our high-end testing and a valuable tool when determining system performance levels using cutting-edge hardware and software.
The Content Creation Winstone benchmark scores are a much bigger surprise, as the i845G powers ahead of the competition, even the i850E. We performed detailed testing in this area and the advantage seems to reside in the new Southbridge and its faster hard drive performance. Disk transfer speeds play a noticeable role in all Winstone testing, and here the i845G looks to have an advantage over the rest of the field.
