SiS 645DX Pentium 4-DDR Chipset Review - Page 9

By Vince Freeman March 27, 2002

Conclusion

SiS has a definite winner with their new 645DX, and it has the potential of being a huge player in the motherboard market. Perhaps its most compelling feature is flexibility, as performance users can match the Pentium 4 with DDR333 and achieve higher-end speed, while overclockers will be salivating at buying a Pentium 4-1.6A and seeing how high they can go. After taking this reference board for an extended test run, we are also anticipating a few excellent board implementations from some of the big players. If that happens, then both SiS and the 645DX will be placed firmly on the Pentium 4 chipset map.

Highs:

  • Incredible Flexibility
  • DDR266/333/400 Memory Options
  • 266/400/533 Front-Side Bus Speeds
Lows:
  • USB 2.0 and ATA133 Should be Standard
  • DDR333 is Expensive
  • Difficult to hit 533 MHz Overclock
