As the PC industry becomes increasingly "multimedia-inclined," the importance of a quality audio solution has become paramount. Several manufacturers have already answered the call for "high-end" multimedia products, treating us to products like MidiLand's S4 8200 and VideoLogic's DigiTheater DTS. These products do not come inexpensively, though, creating room for a more value-oriented surround sound market. Craving a piece of this potentially profitable pie, Logitech is here to deliver their rookie solution for those that desire 4.1 sound at an affordable price.
Dubbed the Xtrusio DSR-100, Logitech's system, which debuts in February, offers 100W RMS split between four 12W satellites and a 52W subwoofer. The subwoofer, which is vertically mounted, houses all of the connectivity options including analog and digital inputs. Among other things, Logitech has included Cyberlink's PowerDVD software for a Dolby Digital-enhanced DVD experience (down-mixed, with a phantom center channel, of course).
Since the system comes from Logitech, we can assume it is easy to set up, easy to use, and looks good, but how does it perform? Given a $180 dollar price point, it isn't hard to see how we would be attracted to the Xtrusio system. Looks aren't everything though…
