Like the 7100 before it, the magnetically shielded satellites included with the 7100M are very versatile. If the satellites are to be placed slightly below the position of the audience, one side of the satellite enclosure offers a 15-degree angle. Not enough? The satellite can also be flipped over for a 25-degree position relative to the horizontal axis. Providing the speaker is to be placed at the same height as the listener, the enclosure can be placed on its side for a completely horizontal position. This is particularly convenient if your center channel is placed on top of a television. If you wish to mount the speakers to a wall, the satellites accept a screw-based bracket that MidiLand sells separately.
The molding that surrounds the 2.5" paper driver is crafted from a material MidiLand calls Platallic, a "plastic metal" that MidiLand claims increases durability and tonal quality. While we have to take MidiLand's word regarding sound quality, we can attest to the enhanced durability - yes, we did test them. After about five minutes of "durability testing" we came to the following conclusion: 1) The 7100M satellites do not roll well due to their non-circular nature and 2) After accidentally dropping the satellites from about three feet, their playback was unaffected. No, we do not recommend you try this at home.
