  • With each new processor launch, AMD solidifies their lead in both the performance and entry-level PC markets. This is especially true with the release of the Athlon 1.4 GHz, which AMD needed to meet the Pentium 4-1.7 GHz challenge. As the Intel Celeron is stuck at 800 MHz and offers no real competition to the performance of even the Duron 900, we should all be ecstatic that AMD continues to produce higher clocked Duron models instead of just concentrating on the Athlon. Next stop, 1 GHz!

    Highs:

    • Lower heat than Athlon
    • Extremely stable
    • Very fast value processor

    Lows:

    • Getting a bit too close to Athlon prices
    • We want 1 GHz!!
