Here are the details of the systems that we utilized for the tests:

  • AMD Athlon 650, 600 CPUs
  • 512KB L2 Cache (1/2 core speed)
  • AMD Production Mainboard Rev. B with 750 chipset
  • Intel P3-600, Celeron 400 CPUs
  • MSI MS-6163 V2.0 440BX Mainboard
  • Hercules Dynamite TNT2 Ultra AGP card (175/200)
  • Windows98 OS
  • Western Digital Expert WD41800 18GB UDMA 66 HD
  • 128MB of EMS HSDRAM (running at 100MHz w/Athlon CPUs and P3 600. Running at 66MHz w/Celeron 400)
  • Diamond MX300 PCI Audio Card
  • Toshiba SCM1212 6x DVD-ROM Drive
By keeping the machines as close to each other in specification as possible we sought to eliminate any errata possibly caused by nuance differences within components. All benchmark tests were run a total of four times, with the best and worst results eliminated while the remaining two scores were averaged together. Vsync was disabled during the tests to allow for maximum frame rate recording.
