The first OpenGL title in our test suite, MDK2, has provided hours of excellent game play and has now made its way into our processor-benchmarking repertoire. All of the quality settings have been maximized and accelerated transform and lighting turned off to keep the processor as busy as possible.
Gaming stresses different aspects of a system's architecture, so it is no wonder that our MDK2 scores do not reflect the same dominance from the Duron that we saw in our earlier office-based applications. MDK doesn't take advantage of the Duron's extra memory bandwidth, instead benefiting from a full-speed cache and well-designed floating-point unit. When it comes to gaming (at least in this application) the race between the Duron and Celeron is much closer.
We are again greeted with interesting results under Windows 2000. More than likely, MDK2 will be replaced shortly in our benchmarking suite in favor of a more reliable application.
