In terms of the processor wars, both Intel and AMD seem to be almost at a stalemate in terms of overall CPU power. The Pentium 4-1.8 GHz owns most of the gaming and multimedia benchmarks, while the Athlon 1.4 GHz is ahead in most productivity and office applications. The wildcard in this game is the prospect of SSE2-enhanced programs, but Intel has not been able to play their Ace in the hole just yet. Until then, we will probably continue to have a core speed vs. IPC race on current applications, while the majority of gamers salivate at the increasingly lower prices of these high-end CPUs.
Pros:
- Fastest Pentium 4 You Can Buy
- Impressive 3D Gaming Performance
- 1.8 GHz.. Need we say more?
Cons:
- Expensive Processor
- Athlon still faster at Business Applications
- Costly RDRAM/i850 Platform
