A couple of weeks ago we took a look at MSI's initial KT133 motherboard offering, the K7T Pro. While the board performed flawlessly in our testing, it lacked some of the features that ASUS and ABIT have been touting, and fell short of a high-end classification. Not satisfied with second (or third) best, MSI went back to the drawing board to re-engineer their Athlon flagship platform and came up with the new K7T Pro2. Although the two boards physically resemble one another, the K7T Pro2 packs plenty of pizzazz under the hood to appeal to the hardcore PC enthusiast looking to push his or her Athlon to the limit.
MSI has outfitted the K7T Pro2 with frequency controls in the BIOS as well as the ability to manipulate voltage settings, placing MSI's latest offering in the same league as ASUS' A7V and ABIT's KT7. Competition in the major leagues takes more than a couple of overclocking features, however. Innovation, stability and value are also of importance. So how does the K7T Pro2 stack up? The original K7T Pro provided stability and value effortlessly; if this second generation board covers the rest of the playing field well, MSI might just have a home run hitter on their hands.
