As we mentioned before, the stand can be removed so you can mount the LCD on a wall or on a swivel arm. There are two VGA inputs on the back of the CPD-L181, allowing you to hook up two computers without a switch. We would like to see a digital flat panel connector of some sort though. The warranty is for three years parts and labor and one year for the backlight. LCD backlights do wear out. In our experience, they get noticeably dimmer after a couple of years but rarely go out entirely. Replacing them is normally a difficult and expensive procedure.

Frankly, we love the CPD-L181 and I'm going to be sad to see it leave my desk. Not even half a ton of lutefisk would cheer me up. While it has a few disadvantages when compared to a good CRT (average color and a hardwired resolution), the advantages (sharpness, small footprint, easy on the eyes, low power, etc.) more than make up for it. At about $3000, it's far from cheap though, and UXGA LCDs (1400x1050) are right around the corner. Overall, Sony's CPD-L181 LCD is a fantastic monitor that we'd replace our CRTs with in a second...if we could afford it.
