There are several things of note: If you look at the Quake timedemo 1 scores, you will notice that, at 640x480 and 800x600, the speeds of the ATI Rage 128 and Voodoo3 are all very close to 19fps. You will also notice that at 1024x768, the framerate for the ATI Rage 128 drops to 12.6fps while the Voodoo3 remains at about 19fps. This is evidence that at lower resolutions, the framerates of both cards are limited by the speed of the CPU. The Power PC 604e 200MHz CPU in the test platform is able to provide enough data for the cards to run at 19fps. At 1024x768, the ATI card is no longer capable of writing to the screen at 19fps, while the 3dfx is still running strong, taking everything the CPU can give.
