  • Test System

As always, we'll give you a brief look at the systems Sharky Extreme labs ran the various boards through:

  • Processor: Intel Pentium III 600MHz, Pentium III 450MHz, and Celeron 300A @ 450MHz
  • Memory: 128MB PC133 SDRAM
  • Motherboard: ABIT BE6
  • Hard Drive: Western Digital 5.1GB
  • Sound Card: Creative Labs Live! Value
  • OS: Windows 98 SE with DirectX 7

The following cards were used with their respective driver version:

  • ATi Rage Fury MAXX 64MB (125/143MHz)/ CD31
  • ASUS GeForce 256 with 32MB SDR RAM (120/166MHz)/ ver. 3.62
  • ELSA ERAZOR X² GeForce 256 with 32MB DDR RAM (120/301MHz)/ ver. 4.12.01.0104-0020

Designed to test the various aspects of 3D performance, 3D Mark 2000 is the synthetic benchmark of choice because of the diverse array of tests it runs on a video subsystem. If anything should showcase the MAXX in action, 3D Mark should be it. Since T&L support is built into 3D Mark 2000, the GeForce cards use Hardware T&L while the MAXX uses Pentium III extensions. When the MAXX is tested with the Celeron, software T&L is utilized.
