Thanks to gigatexel fill rates, full scene anti-aliasing has become a reality on the latest round of performance video cards. Many people swear they cannot see a difference between 3dfx's jittered method and NVIDIA's super-sampled technique, but we have subjectively determined that the Voodoo5 delivers a more convincing image. Having said that, the RADEON utilizes the same type of super-sampling algorithm as NVIDIA's GeForce2.
Both Direct3D and OpenGL are supported through a single toggle button to turn FSAA on and off. We were told by ATI that the quality level is equal to the middle setting (2x2 special) in NVIDIA's Detonator 3 slider, although it is difficult to tell for sure. We have heard that there will likely be a driver to add further options to the FSAA settings, and hopefully some performance gains.
The FSAA scores accurately reflect the fillrate usage of ATI's supersampling technique. Although we aren't wholly impressed with the FSAA implementation used on the RADEON, we've heard rumors that there are already drivers in the works to improve this situation.
