Something worthy of note (and we'll have more for you on this) is that within the console menu of Quake 2 we noticed that the SGIS_MULTITEXTURE instruction was NOT FOUND. However the GL_ARB mode is actually being implemented instead for the single-pass multitexturing. We're unsure as to why NVIDIA dropped the SGIS as we're under the impression this is actually faster?
Just like any other TNT2 (or indeed almost any next generation 2D/3D solution), the 2D performance of the S320 II is stellar. Still no 24-bit depth but nonetheless, we encountered no image problems whatsoever when testing Internet Explorer 5.0, Netscape 4.02 and all of the Microsoft Office Applications (Excel was especially fun). With the 300MHz RAMDAC, the speed and refresh rates are extremely impressive. The monitor resolutions can go as high as 1920x1440 in 16,7 million colors and 2048x1536 in 65,000 colors at a refresh rate of 60-75Hz. Whilst this is especially impressive and useful to Spread Sheet Extremists, it is also liable to make you go blind (not clinically proven but you know there will be a survey conducted by Bollockstown University soon).
