As both the Winfast TD and the Hercules Prophet III are based on the reference GF3 design and come set to the same clock speeds, it is unsurprising that they score very similarly across the board. Had we run the timedemos a few dozen times and come to an average, in fact, it is likely that we would get almost identical averages. The poor GTS thrown into the mix, furthermore, never really stood a fighting chance. While it seems to hold up ok at 640x480, it gets left in the dust as the resolution is set higher.

We certainly hope we have succeeded in pointing out where the WinFast GeForce 3 TD is different from other GeForce 3's out there. Hopefully, you learned just how similar all GeForce 3 boards really are. What the GeForce 3 war really comes down to is features and how much you pay for them.

The WinFast GeForce 3 TD is certainly a good value in terms of features offered versus price charged. Designed to compete with the Hercules GeForce 3, the Leadtek board offers TV-Out and DVI connectors. Both products include software DVD players, color tweaking utilities, and an S-Video to RCA converter. Leadtek also included 2 extra cables and offers the board for an average of $40 cheaper than the Hercules board.

The choice is yours, but base it on some knowledge. If you have no need for extra features or software, Perhaps Visiontek or the Asus V8200 pure are more your speed. In this case we suggest that you buy whichever board is lowest on the price. If you are looking for a more fully featured board, then look at products from Leadtek and Hercules. Of course for those of you looking for VIVO functionality, the only board we can suggest is the Asus V8200 Deluxe. There is a GeForce 3 out there for each of these scenarios, and armed with this knowledge you can let your wallet guide you to the best buy for your needs.

    Pros:

    • Has many features of more expensive GeForce 3 boards
    • Fully Hardware Anti-Aliasing
    • Exceptional high-resolution performance
    • 1024x768 TV-Out resolution
    • S-Video and RCA cables included
    • DVD player and tweaking utilities

    Cons:

    • Still more than $300 for a video card
    • GPU and RAM coolers poor performers
    • Software bundle somewhat sparse
