  • Stereo analog mixing from CD-Audio, Line-in Stereo digital mixing from Voice, FM/Wave-table, Digital CD-Audio Mono mixing from MIC and software adjustable volume OPL3 FM synthesizer (4 operators) Up to 15 melody sounds and 5 rhythm sounds (20 voices)

Fully compatible with MPU-401 Midi UART and Sound Blaster Midi mode / Standard IBM PC joystick / game port (dual channels), 20dB audio quality in playback, recording, and bypass modes.

This was a pretty simple and standard sound card installation, although for those who may need help in this area the step-by-step guide provides excellent. If you plan to install the included optical module, you need connect this to the sound card before you attempt to plug them in. To me, the sound card seemed almost backwards; as the top of the card faces down once it is in the slot. If you plug the card in first you will be unable to connect the optical module cable into the Nightingale Pro 6.

The drivers for the Nightingale Pro 6 gets no complaints for me. The CD provides full drivers for Windows 95/98/ME/2000 and Linux. It took me approximately ten minutes from the time I pulled out my Montego II Quad to have the first positional audio demo launched. Zoltrix has provided the basic reference drivers, offering very little for options, yet also providing stability and hassle-free installation. When you install the drivers, you'll get what is called the "Audio Rack" (your basic CD, MP3, Midi, volume control menu, graphically designed to look like a rack mount stereo) which also includes a mixer. Your main Audio Environment setting has standard options for SPDIF IN looping, SPDIF Out, Format, and HRTF 3D Sound CPU Utilization. By opening the mixer, you can get more advanced options, as shown in the screen capture below.

Along with your drivers and music player software, you'll also get a selection of C3D HRTF positional demos, and a very nice CMI8738/PCI Multi-Channel Audio Demo, which is excellent for testing audio setup and satellite speakers to ensure everything is working properly. The Nightingale Pro 6 driver CD also has a full version of Win DVD.
