The following is a detailed breakdown of the systems Intel is planning for each segment of their consumer and business desktop market. All system prices are without a monitor.
Price Range: >$2000
CPU, Bus Speed, Motherboard Chipset by Quarter
- Q4 2000: Pentium III 1GHz w/133MHz FSB and i820/E chipset
Pentium 4 Introduction 1.5 & 1.4GHz w/400MHz FSB and i850 chipset
- Q1 2001: Pentium 4 ³1.7 & 1.5GHz w/400MHz FSB and i850 chipset

The Performance systems are akin to what you will see in our Hardware Buyer's Guide as the High-End Gaming and High-End Business PCs. These machines are the best you can find in a moderately priced, single CPU Intel solution.
A quick look at our roadmap we posted back in March of 2000 showed that Intel was a quarter ahead of schedule with the Pentium 4 and shipping at the top end of their estimated clock speed range. Increased competition from AMD may have lit a fire under Intel's britches.
