Unlike some other 3Dfx-loyalists around here *cough*Sharky*cough*, I've found both the Spectra 2500 and this Velocity V4400 to be incredibly ass-kicking speedsters in both the real-world and in benchmarks.
The nVidia TNT performs as promised, which is faster than any single Voodoo2 card under ALL resolutions, with ANY CPU, in ANY mainstream benchmark, PERIOD. If that's not the definition of a "Voodoo2-killer" then I don't know what is. I do however totally agree that a Voodoo2 SLI rig is still the optimal gaming setup for people with the resources, but you give up some important things when you commit to the 2xVoodoo2 cards. Things like two PCI slots, 32-bpp color rendering, AGP support, and a small degree of image quality.
The TNT-based cards remedy all of the problems above, and also throw in the world's fastest 2D performance- despite what the 3Dfx Banshee's press release says.
In any case, our Sharky Extreme benchmark suite was performed on the following system:
Intel Pentium 2-300 and 450 CPUs
Abit BH6 440BX Mainboard
Goldstar 128MB PC-100 SDRAM (Chip Part# GM72V66841CT-7J)
STB Velocity V4400 16MB AGP 2D/3D accelerator
Metabyte Wicked3D 12MB Voodoo2 PCI card
Adaptec 2490UW Ultra-Wide SCSI Controller
IBM Ultrastar 9 8.4GB UWSCSI HD
Diamond Monster Sound MX200 3D PCI Sound Card
Plextor SCSI 32X CD-ROM
Win95 OSR 2.1
Test Conditions and Specifications: All tests were run a total of three times with the results averaged to determine final score. VSYNCH was OFF for all video tests, allowing maximum frame rate performance. Both cards were tested at their stock core speeds of 90MHz and memory clock speeds of 110MHz.
300Mhz Pentium II results:
