PNY Verto GeForce4 Ti 4600 Review

By Vince Freeman May 17, 2002

Introduction

Although there have been a few intriguing video card technologies announced of late, the GeForce4 Ti 4600 is still the fastest 3D gun in the west. NVIDIA has continued to push the envelope with their new line and the GeForce4 Ti 4600 is an incredibly powerful chip that currently sits as the jewel in the NVIDIA crown. The NVIDIA vendor list seemingly grows by the day, and this creates a lot of potential options, not to mention a large selection of vendors producing cards under the GeForce4 Ti 4600 brand.

The key to making the right call comes down to the individual choices each vendor makes in their specific card design. Some go for the high-end with VIVO options and overclockable memory, while others take a more spartan approach and hit some excellent price points. No matter which way you look at it, a GeForce4 Ti 4600 card will be bound to reach exceptional performance levels, but it is the design, quality, internal components, price and even software bundles that separates one vendor from the other.

PNY is an international manufacturer that has built up a name in the area of memory products, and has taken advantage of this core business in their transition to other hardware markets. Their current company slogan of "More Than Just Memory" sums this up quite effectively and their product line includes SmartCards, Flash Memory, CD-Media and 3D video cards.

This last item likely will be of most interest, as PNY has produced NVIDIA cards since the early days of the GeForce2 and TNT2 VANTA. Lately though, PNY has really emerged as a major player, and their Verto brand can be found at many major retailers. This is similar to the growth VisionTek experienced, and in reviewing the Verto GeForce4 Ti 4600, we'll have to see if PNY can come up with that same combination of price, performance and quality.
