ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 8500 Review - Page 11

By Vince Freeman April 22, 2002

Value

ATI recently announced updated pricing on their All-in-Wonder product line. The AiW Radeon 8500 checks in at $399, while the AiW Radeon DV and AiW Radeon 7500 have new $299 and $199 price tags respectively. These are some very interesting price points, and we would imagine that the home and professional crowd will still lean towards the less-expensive 8500DV, while the gaming and home video market will migrate over to the powerful AiW Radeon 8500. This is also an area where ATI has limited competition from NVIDIA, as there is really no comparable product that offers the same combination of A/V features, high-end gaming performance, and the consumer-level price of the All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500.

* Please note that these are ATI retail prices and are not intended to reflect long-term trends or street prices.

Conclusion

ATI has a definite winner with their new All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500. It has an incredible combination of high-end 3D speed, excellent image quality and A/V features like no card before it. There are a few options on the All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500DV that we would have liked to see included here, but the added performance helps make up the difference. The All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500 represents yet another high point for ATI, and really lives up to its All-in-Wonder brand name.

Pros:

  • True Radeon 8500 128-MB Performance
  • Excellent A/V Functionality
  • 3 Year Warranty

Cons:

  • No Firewire or Dedicated VGA-out
  • Documentation Could be Better
  • Fewer A/V Features than AiW 8500DV
