Leadtek WinFast A250 Ultra TD GF4 Ti 4600 Review
    By Joel Hruska :  May 29, 2002

    Jedi Knight II Performance

Both Jedi Knight II and Castle Wolfenstein are excellent updates to the Q3A engine (in addition to being great games) and allow for the testing of more advanced features and options than were available when the venerable Quake 3 was released.

In Jedi Knight II the scores are even more closely grouped than RtCW, with the GeForce4 Ti-based cards pulling well ahead of the Radeon 8500, which in turn beats out the GeForce3-based designs. The additional vertex and pixel shaders, and more advanced memory controllers on-board the Radeon 8500 and GeForce4 Ti are likely responsible for their higher performance in this test.

    Comanche 4 Performance

Although Comanche 4 is billed as a 3D test, the game itself is extremely CPU dependent. Its advantage, however, is that its one of the only games to extensively use and test vertex and pixel shaders, which makes it an excellent choice for a DX 8.1 benchmark. The A250 Ultra TD comes out on top, while the Radeon 8500 performs surprisingly well in this benchmark, while the other GeForce3 cards lag behind.

    3DMark 2001 Performance

In 3DMark 2001 there aren't really any surprises. The A250 Ultra TD and GeForce4 Ti 4400 cards come in first, while the R8500 (which has always run well in 3Dmark) pulls ahead of the GeForce3 Ti 500. While 3DMark 2001 is a synthetic benchmark (and thus, not fully relatable to real-world gaming) the test is still one of the few DX8-enabled benchmarks, and is included for that reason.
