It's funny. Nobody who ever wrote for SharkyGames seemed surprised when I told them this site was going to be put on hold for a while. Probably because they know the focus that Sharky is trying to maintain isn't about games. It never really was.
I am, of course, bracing myself for a healthy barrage of angry emails over this decision. The gate is open and you are all most welcome. Work hard enough and maybe you can make me cry and I'll send you a picture.
The fact is I love games. And I love gaming. And I certainly hope many of you continue to use the forums to discuss whatever you want to about the industry. That's what the forums are there for.
I also know many of you will leave upon discovering this decision. If you were coming to this site for gaming info I certainly can't blame you.
Ahh, yes. Change sucks sometimes, doesn't it? I remember when they canceled Knight Rider. I cried and cried. But then I found it on USA Networks at one in the morning FIVE DAYS A WEEK and David Hasslehoff went on to do many more amazing and wonderful things.
All gaming content is not gone from Sharky, however. Andrew S. Bub, the brilliant voice behind BEATDOWN on SharkyGames, has launched a new column (READ: "RANT") on SharkyExtreme, and we plan on having a healthy dose of entertainment-related information for you there as things develop.
The straight dope: It all boils down to corporate image, a (sometimes nasty) little pair of words that has more influence than any (self-respecting) journalist wants to admit. Internet.com isn't a consumer play for the most part, and though we occasionally slip into that realm (usually for good measure) it doesn't make sense to focus on it entirely.
At least not now.
Maybe SharkyGames will come back after markets rebuild and business plans are re-thought. No promises, just hopes.
Good night SG. May you rest in peace.
