Ready for the Rave Scene or Skateboard Park
This July, Sony Electronics will ship two new compact, 2-megapixel digital cameras. The Cyber-shot U30 (about $200) is light enough to wear on a belt loop or around your neck as well as in a pocket; it's available in gray, blue, or silver. The Cyber-shot U60 (about $250) puts the same picture-taking features into an innovative vertical case that's built for one-handed operation -- and also ruggedized and waterproof, suitable for snapping sports scenes outdoors or even up to 5 feet underwater.
Both fixed-focus, 1,632 by 1,224-resolution cameras feature fast startup times; pre-flash metering for capturing subjects with scenic backgrounds under low-light conditions; a 15-second MPEG movie mode (160 by 112 resolution); and bright, reflective LCD monitors.
The U30's sliding lens cover contains a circular mirror so you can frame shots when you're in the picture. The U60's controls are designed for easy thumb operation, including a button that switches among seven scene modes including underwater (to adjust for blue hues) and fast-moving action settings.
