Titanic 3D and 2D
Intel's 3GHz Pentium chips are pretty strong when it comes to floating-point processing, right? They sure are, agrees ATI Technologies -- one-seventh as strong as ATI's new FireGL V7350 workstation graphics accelerator, which combines an ultra-threaded parallel graphics processor with a record 1GB of GDDR-3 display memory.
Both the flagship FireGL V7350 ($1,999) and the 512MB FireGL V7300 ($1,599) are aimed at computer-aided design (CAD), digital content creation, GIS mapping, and other workstation applications that can take advantage of their 512-bit ring bus memory architecture, 128-bit precision, 8 parallel geometry engines, and 16 pixel shader processors. In addition to OpenGL 2.0 and Microsoft DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.0 support and certification from major 3D software vendors, the new FireGL flagships feature a 10-bit per RGB component graphics pipeline and high dynamic range (HDR) rendering capable of over a billion colors.
ATI's Avivo video technology brings features such as automatic gain control and gamma correction, while dual-link outputs can drive two 2,560 by 1,600-resolution displays or one 3,840 by 2,400 screen. The cards also support dual VGA analog and YPrPb component output.
