The DMP-100 is an overall good MP3 player, which excels in its ability to record audio.
We liked the device's music accuracy, its overall clarity, and its freedom from distracting hiss and distortion. We also liked the practicality of its audio recorder, as well as the player's small size and weight. We'd recommend the DMP-100 to anyone looking for a good combination player/recorder on a budget.
At $150 the DMP-100 is a fair bargain, but we do think that the purchase of a $90 32MB SmartMedia flash ram card (which brings total storage capacity to 64MB) is mandatory. This places the DMP-100 into the sights of the Diamond Rio 500 64MB MP3 player ($240) which offers some more luxury in terms of software and overall fit and finish, but is not able to record audio.
- Generally good sound quality.
- Excellent voice recording mode.
- Bundled software is basic, but competent.
- Competitive Price.
- Lack of USB connection slows down music transfer rate.
- Internal equalizer not manually configurable.
